The Chinese

We give a fist bump to the Chinese who built one of the most popular symbols of China. The Great Wall of China consists of many walls and fortifications. It was originated by Emperor Qin Shi Huang (c. 259-210 B.C) in the third century B.C. It was intended to prevent barbarian nomads from entering into the Chinese empire. It is one of the most extensive wall-building projects ever completed. There also is a claim that it is the only manmade structure that is visible from space.

The Romans

Hats off to the Romans for their wall-building ingenuity. They built a famous wall in England called Hadrian’s Wall. It was a wall built for defense in the Roman province of Britannia, which commenced being built in AD 122 under the reign of the emperor Hadrian. The wall was 73 miles long. Not including the wall’s ditches, berms and forts, it was formed with squared stone and measured almost 10 feet wide and 16 to 20 feet high.
